Our Reading 4 Pleasure Opportunities

Here's a great Reading 4 Pleasure Opportunity.

After you have read your book, download a book review sheet, fill it in and then hand it to your class teacher. HAPPY READING!

READY 2 READ WEEK was on Monday 27th February to Friday 3rd March 2023

This year's theme was POETRY.

We planned a special week of reading, reciting, performing and writing poetry as part of our annual Ready 2 Read week.

Each year group focused on different types of poetry, including: alphabet/number poems, nursery rhymes, Diamante poems, Acrostic and shape poems, Cinquain and Tanka poems, Limericks, Nonsense poems, Kennings, Ballads, Narrative poems and Sonnets.

On Wednesday 1st March we were all be able to interact with a real poet/illustrator and performer through a virtual live link.  All the children had the opportunity to connect with Angela-Marie James on a personal level and hear first hand about the poetry writing process. A BIG THANK YOU to the PTFA for funding this!

Thursday 2nd March was World Book day and we had the opportunity to dress up. All year groups chose different themes, some linked them to favourite book characters, others linked their fancy dress with their poetry work. In addition to this, during the afternoon there was a visiting story teller in Key Sage 1 and EYFS.

Finally, on Friday 3rd March, following all the work the children will have done about poems and poets the whole school had the opportunity to perform some poetry that they had learned by heart, in our Widey Court Poetry Slam! This was a wonderful experience for the children.
