About this year group

Reading Books

Children are expected to read daily and the should read the same book more than once to build on their understanding and fluency.  School reading books will be changed every Friday.

Children who have secured all of their phase 3 and 5 phonics sounds and who are applying these well in their reading and writing will have the opportunity to be assessed on our AR reading scheme to secure their comprehension skills in weekly quizes. Children's phonics skills need to be secure and consistent to move on to AR reading books.

Homework

Homework will be set every Monday (books will be returned home on a Tuesday) and spelling tests will take place the following Monday. Please have a look on the home learning section of the website. Children have number bonds set as part of their homework and the use of Numbots is encouraged and rewarded but isn't set as homework.

PE and Games

The children have PE on Monday and Wednesday. Children are able to wear their PE kits to school on those days. When it is cooler, please could children wear their team coloured PE T-shirt, long black trousers and black jacket/sweatshirt. In warmer weather children can wear plain black PE shorts with their team coloured PE T-shirt. As part of helping your child become more independent at school, we kindly ask that if your child is not yet able to tie their own shoelaces, they wear Velcro-fastening shoes and trainers to school. This equally helps staff focus on supporting learning rather than tying laces.

HAVING FUN and learning IN ALL WEATHERS

All children should have a weather appropriate coat in school every day.

Water bottles are kept in the classroom and children have access to their water throughout the day.

During the winter months, we recommend children wear gloves and warm hats when outside to stay warm. Welly boots are welcome to be left in school, should you wish to. We will let you know if we are going on a welly walk or into the woods so you can bring these in.

In the summer months, we recommend that children bring in sunhats and sun cream. Children should have their sun cream before coming to school, in the morning, and we will support the children reapplying their sun cream before they go out at lunch time. Please do not send sunglasses into school unless they are prescription glasses.

Breakfast Club and After School Club

In Autumn 1: Breakfast club will take place Oak class and is run by Miss Wells.

In Autumn 1: After-school club will take place in Cherry class and is run by Miss Wells.

We are thrilled to be part of St Luke’s summer project: Guiding Lights 💡 Next year, we will have a small lighthouse model to design and decorate (in the same way we designed our Elmer elephant in the reception area). We are one of 42 schools who will form part of the Guding Lights trail through The Box next summer. Thank you Mrs Monk for this exciting opportunity! ⭐️💚⭐️💚 Stlukesguidinglights
