Our Reading 4 Pleasure Opportunities

READY 2 READ WEEK - Monday 27th February to Friday 3rd March 2023

This year's theme is POETRY.

We are planning a special week of reading, reciting, performing and writing poetry as part of our annual Ready 2 Read week this year!

Each year group will be focussing on different types of poetry, including: alphabet/number poems, nursery rhymes, Diamante poems, Acrostic and shape poems, Cinquain and Tanka poems, Limericks, Nonsense poems, Kennings, Ballads, Narrative poems and Sonnets.

On Wednesday 1st March we will all be able to interact with a real poet/illustrator and performer through a virtual live link. Angel-Marie James' workshops are "an inspiration for children to be more enthusiastic readers and writers." All the children will have an opportunity to connect with her on a personal level and hear first hand about the poetry writing process. A BIG THANK YOU to the PTFA for funding this!

More information about our virtual visiting author is available here: amjames.co.uk

Thursday 2nd March is World Book day and our opportunity to dress up. Please check with your class teacher because our Ready 2 Read theme this year is Poetry, they may have some great ideas! In addition to this, during the afternoon there will be a visiting story teller in Key Sage 1 and EYFS.

Finally, on Friday 3rd March, following all the work the children will have done about poems and poets we are planning an opportunity for some children to perform some poetry that they have leaned by heart in our Widey Court Poetry Slam! This is a wonderful experience for the children and is in relation to the National Curriculum expectations for all primary aged children.
